If you've spent more than five minutes in business, you've learned a few lessons about how-to and how-not-to create value, enable value, or otherwise improve the condition of others. Hold on; despite popular belief just because you can, doesn't mean you should jump off of a cliff and write a book. If it was that easy, even more people would do it. BTW, over 3,000 business books are published EVERY month. And with the proliferation of self-publishing, it means just about anyone can get "a book" out the door. That's NOT what this program is about.
A) You need to be coached in the fundamental difference between self-publishing and commercial-publishing; I've done both and we'll begin the journey in discussing your why and the pros and cons of each of these unique paths.
B) Publishers really don't want to work with first-time authors, because you don't know what you don't know. After all, none of us were born with this information. We all learned it somehow. I went to Book Expo America (BEA) for 3 days, twice, met with dozens of literary agents, book publishers, international rights agents, and other intermediaries to really learn about this incredibly antiquated industry that still runs the same way it did 100 years ago.
C) For most of us, do you know what a published book becomes? A $10 business card! I spent $10K printing boxes of marketing material, which I threw out in recycling after 3 years of them sitting around. Now, I take prospects, clients, speaking, consulting, and coaching engagements a signed book!
BTW, after having published ten books, translated in eight languages, with another seven in my head in various stages, I know what I do well and Fiction, Children's, Cooking, Travel or Diet aren't it! I'm a business consultant, author, speaker, and coach and know that I should stick to my knitting.
